[SBB] Calero Res

On Saturday, 5 Nov 05, I visited Calero Reservoir, walking in to the
southeast corner past the stables. A group of about 25 WILD TURKEYS was
working along the road there. A large flock of CANADA GEESE contained an
immature GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and 13 CACKLING GEESE; likely the same
birds that Ann Verdi saw earlier in the week. I judged all the Cackling
Geese to be leucopareia (aleutian). Perhaps 6 of these birds had white neck
rings, either quite distinct or in the making, while the others all had
slightly paler breasts without neck rings (immatures). They were all fairly
equivalent in size, head shape, bill, etc. A total of 30 female COMMON
MERGANSERS were on the reservoir, with only a small smattering of other duck
species. On the way out a pair of RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS was vocally
complaining to a trio of RED-TAILED HAWKS soaring over their territory.
