Consensus is that my 'mystery' flycatchers are Western Wood-Pewee,
not Willow Flycatcher. Here're Mike Roger's observations:
"Note that the primary extension (the amount of wing tip that extends
past the folded tertials) is quite long - like a pewee, rather than
short - like a WIFL - and that the underside of the bill shows
extensive dusky at the tip. Most spring Willows should have all
orange lower mandibles. Williow Flycatchers are quite rare in spring,
so you should start off with "Why isn't this a pewee?" and work from
there...
Vocalizations are very helpful - the WIFL has an empid "whit" that is
very different from pewee vocalizations."

Yesterday I took a bit of time at lunch to photograph birds at the
Baytree picnic area of Stevens Creek County Park. The flycatchers
were out in reasonably large numbers. My ability to identify
flycatchers, especially empids, is not particularly skilled, so I
was wondering if anyone wanted to take a crack at confirming my
tentative identifications. Any tips would be welcome, including
"there's not enough information in these photographs to make a
positive identification." I have additional photographs of each of
these birds, if any are of interest.
I'm pretty well certain that this is a Pacific-slope Flycatcher:

I believe that these are of a Western Wood-Pewee:

I think these two are of the same individual, and it looks somewhat
like a Willow Flycatcher to me, although I'm hesitant to make such
an identification:

Also this one. Any ideas? Another one of Willow? A young Pewee?
Clearly watching the bird in the wild and listening to the song
would be helpful.

And here's a Black Phoebe. I only put it here because they're my
favorite. And to note that in the less-than-an-hour that I was by
the creekside I saw a lot of flycatchers!
