I hiked a wee bit at two locations in nearby Quicksilver park today. Our
first stop was at the Mockingbird Hill entrance where I saw three Coopers
Hawks. Last year they nested near the entrance.
At the McAbee entrance my first spring Warbling Vireo was seen. A pair of
Coopers Hawks, one with nesting material, flew over the ridge near the
towers. Orange crowned Warblers, Huttons Vireo, Wrentits, and many Cal.
Thrashers were heard. This was mainly a wildflower walk and they were
spectacular. Four Blue-gray Gnatcatchers were heard and one male seen at
the start of the Senador trail. A Sharp shinned Hawk flew into a tree and
scattered the Mourning Doves. The resident pair of Ravens were squabbling
today.
