An adult male Merlin was perched on the top of an oak tree west of the
Mazzone bridge on the Alamitos Creek trail this afternoon. Not much else
except for a Downy Woodpecker pair excavation a tree cavity. A Red
shouldered Hawk was seen carrying a vole to its mate perched in a Sycamore
tree.
The Lesser Yellowlegs I reported seeing at Chesbro was actually a Greater
Yellowlegs. I didn't give it much thought at the time but was told it was
unlikely. I'm confident the beak was longer than the head. Sorry about my
carelessness.
