All,
This morning, in the Coyote Creek Riparian Station "Waterbird Pond," Frank
Vanslager found a large, overall bright white Gull with a dark eye, pink legs
and a large black-tipped pink bill. The only problem with this bird was that
there was dark smudging along the cutting edge of the bill for a short
distance behind the black tip (I assume that this makes it some sort of hybrid,
possibly a Glaucous x Glaucous-winged). Unfortunately I was only able to get
one fairly poor photo when, for no apparent reason, it took wing with the rest
of the birds in the pond. We then watched the bird, soaring with the other
Gulls, until it was out of sight somewhere near the Newby Island Dump.
Take care,
Bob Reiling
