Re: [SBB] Hooded Orioles

Like Bill's personal interest in Hooded Orioles ~
I have a strong interest in early arrival of The Blue Grosbeak here in the south bay.
Birders have had BG in Ed Lavine Regional Pk. in past years. How early I don't remember.
Last year I heard a singing male on April 3rd. The BG was not seen until the week of April 12th.
My earliest confirmed sighting B4 this was April 16th on Patterson Pass Rd. Alameda County.
Bob Barnes of Audubon Weldon, Ca. Lake Isabella property e mailed me 4/2004 saying he had BG on the property week April5th, 2004.
Have a good day

Dear Dotty and SBB,

Although not an answer to your direct question, historically, the median
arrival date in Santa Clara County is 21 Mar (n = 24), with a range from 10
Mar to 13 Apr. However, it can be tricky to tease out the occasional
wintering bird from these data.

So you are right, it is early. Please get a good look!
