Dear Dotty and SBB,

Although not an answer to your direct question, historically, the median 
arrival date in Santa Clara County is 21 Mar (n = 24), with a range from 10 
Mar to 13 Apr.  However, it can be tricky to tease out the occasional 
wintering bird from these data.

So you are right, it is early.  Please get a good look!
