Re: [SBB] American Dipper in Stevens Creek

American Dippers are resident and present year-round. They may be difficult to locate in winter because they are believed to move higher into their drainage in winter. Or, maybe they aren't looked for much in winter and are under-reported.

All,

This morning Frank Vanslager and I had an AMERICAN DIPPER in Stevens Creek
above the fourth bridge from Mt. Eden Rd. Later in Sanborn County Park below
Lake Ranch Reservoir we had a WINTER WREN and several VARIED THRUSH. Other
birds seen included HERMIT THRUSH, PURPLE FINCH, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE,
DARK-EYED JUNCO, NUTTALL'S WOODPECKER, STELLER'S JAY, RED-TAILED HAWK,
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS (one showing the double crests), RING-NECKED DUCK,
BUFFLEHEAD and MALLARD. We also had a singing YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, calling
HUTTON'S VIREOS (lots) and a calling NORTHERN FLICKER that had us going for a while.

Take care,
