Following up on Mike Mammoser's recent post, I visited the EEC area
late morning today. Along with at least 30 WILSON'S PHALAROPEs were
at least three RED-NECKED PHALAROPEs -- two of these in essentially
basic plumage, one still largely in breeding plumage. All of these
Phalaropes were at the third island. So was what appeared to be a
bright LEAST SANDPIPER. Also there, Randy Little first spotted two
BLACK SKIMMERs (which snuck in while I was looking elsewhere). A
male LESSER SCAUP was accompanied by a similar female duck which
lacked white around the base of the bill (too brief a look to say
more). I didn't want to make the trek to where Eric Feuss reported
the Little Blue Heron, but Randy was going to head that way.
When I first arrived, what appeared to be an adult BARN-OWL was
briefly peering out the entrance of the nest box -- would youngsters
have the adult facial pattern by now?
