Yesterday (06/24/2005), there was a Little Blue Heron sighted around 7 PM in
the vicinity of the Environmental Education Center (EEC) in Alviso. The
individual was an adult seen flying in Mallard (Artesian) Slough, toward and about a
quater mile from Coyote Creek.
This individual was seen from within the slough itself during an SFBBO
survey, but should be able to be sought from the slough trail out from the EEC.
Also seen from the slough in a non publicly accessed location were three male
Tricolored Blackbirds along Newby Island landfill. They were seen in among a
large group (100+) of Red-winged Blackbirds (some Brewers Blackbirds and
European Starlings, but not many). The majority of this group were females, from
which I tried, but failed to distinguish any Tricolored females. Interesting
enough, Brown-headed Cowbirds were seen and heard in the area, but not part of
this group.
All the best,
Eric Feuss
