On Saturday I birded around Grant County Park. At the clump of trees just
up the trail from the Twin Gates parking area I saw Lazuli Bunting,
Western Wood-Peewee, Western Kingbird, several Lark Sparrows and Bullock's
Orioles. A little farther up the trail a Grasshopper Sparrow was singing
on top of a small post.
Becuase of parking issues at Smith Creek I didn't feel comfortable staying
long. There were two Belted Kingfishers flying around the small pond.
Right next to my car I saw two House Wrens. No Lawrence's Goldfinch. Has
anyone seen them there this year?
At the parking lot near the visitor's center there were many Western
Bluebirds and at least two Western Kingbirds. I followed one Western
Kingbird to a nest in a sycamore tree right on the edge of the parking
lot. I got some very good photos of the nest, the young and the adult.
