[SBB] Parking and access on Mt. Hamilton

Following my previous posting on April 25, I have verified that:

It IS legal to park anywhere alongside either Highway 130 or San Antonio Valley Road -- as long as your car is off the paved road, and the area is not posted with a 'no parking' sign that cites a state or county ordinance. Both UCSC police and county deputies agree that "pedestrians and cars will no longer be asked to leave the roadways" (UCSC Vice Chancellor Christina Valentino, in coordination with UCSC police and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's office).

Smith Creek trail is open to the public. The gate closing and no trespassing signs were apparently done by a neighboring "overenthusiastic rancher" (Park Ranger Lisa at Grant Ranch). Lisa opened the gate, which had been wired shut, and told me to ignore the 'no trespassing signs' that had been posted on trees.

As to parking in front of the CDF fire station at Smith Creek, I have not been able to verify who posted the signs, or the legality of the prohibition. The CDF station is closed during the months of low fire hazard. As the no parking signs do not cite any ordinance, I'm suspicious they might have been posted by an overenthusiastic neighbor, also. More to follow.

To not clutter South Bay Birds with off-subject items, I refrained from posting a more detailed explanation.

If you wish, I will email it to you upon your request.
