Hello,
Though I walk past the permanent pond just south of the Wave Walk in
Sunnyvale Baylands Park almost every day, I was surprised at what I saw this
evening. In the southeast corner of this pond I first heard and then saw an
adult COMMON MOORHEN, the first of this species I've seen here since 2003.
The biggest surprise was that the Moorhen had two juveniles with her. They
disappeared into the plant growth off to the east from a canal that leads
out of the southeast corner of the pond. The juveniles were nearly half the
size of the adult.
