Friends have pointed out a Great Egret nesting site close to Charleston
Marsh, on Shorebird Way, along a street lined with office buildings.
Workers there say there was nesting activity last year as well.
If you are going east on Charleston, instead of going all the way to
the end as you would if you were going to the marsh, take the last
right turn on Shorebird Way, a dead end. Look up into the sycamores on
the left. The third tree in particular has four active nests with
chicks. Look for the guano on the road. You'll hear the egrets as well,
especially if it is feeding time. The chicks look pretty large to me.
There are as many as 20 active and inactive nests in that row of trees.
