I guess I should have asked Mike along on todays visit (7/30). One
similarly plumaged RED KNOT (almost no red visible on breast) cooperated
for about 10 minutes around 12:30, but that was it -- no others were seen.
A mix of 11 identified shorebird species feeding with the receding tide
also included one WHIMBREL.

One of the three B1 pairs apparently has hatched young. While 5 of the
adult BLACK SKIMMERs were pretty much staying put, one member of the third
pair (i.e., the last one along the direction of the levee trail) was
repeatedly flying out and returning with food (small fish was what I
could make out) and feeding it to something(s) invisible in the vege-
tation (i.e., it was not feeding its mate). However, I never managed to
see a chick.

Still there today, of course. On the way out my high count on that
boardwalk was 66, with a few more in the air. On my way back, quite a
few were foraging, near the boardwalk, but none approached the near end
of the pond. Also on A2W, the algae mat (and vicinity) at the southwest
corner held at least 24 PIED-BILLED GREBEs, mostly in one flock. And
a single CASPIAN TERN flew by.
