Yesterday and today, 7/29 and 7/30/05, I heard a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH
calling, just a single set of calls each time. This is the first time
in 7+ years that I've heard them around the house in summer; my
previous summer detections along Skyline have come from the Castle Rock
Park area. I've heard and seen them in fall/winter around the house and
about a mile south, along Skyline Blvd. Last night, Mary alerted me to
the calling of a bird, which turned out to be 3-4 branchling GREAT
HORNED OWLS scattered around the house. Such a mournful sound.
