[SBB] Peregrine Falcon

This morning I walked north along the Guadalupe River trail from the pedestrian bridge north of the Lake Almaden. Six juv. Rough-winged Swallow's were perched together on a twig along bank begging to be fed. I spotted several Green Herons hiding in the cattails. A beautiful female Belted Kingfisher was perched on the west side of the bank at the water district. Juvenile Barn Swallows were perched on a rail at the fish ladder being fed by adults. Coots, Pied billed Grebes and one Black-crowned Night Heron were seen in the same vicinity. Several White and Snowy Egrets and one Green Heron flew down the river channel. North of Blossom Hill Rd. I found one Black-headed Grosbeak and another Belted Kingfisher. Close to hwy. 85 I saw a Peregrine Falcon fly north over the freeway. It looks like the female from the pair that favored this area last year. Many Cliff Swallows which nested under the freeway were still in the area hawking bugs. A chattering pair of White-throated Swifts caught my attention and were seen flying overhead. North of 85 one male Hooded Oriole flew by followed by a female and 2 juveniles. Two juvenile Common Mergansers were hunting on the pond containing Pied-billed Grebes, Coots and Mallards. Half a dozen more Hooded Orioles were sipping nectar from flower spikes at spectacular blooming Agave on the east side of the pond. One Black-crowned Night Heron was perched in a Willow tree here and one Forsters Tern flew by. I spotted a juvenile in a family of Crows perched in a palm tree. Black Phoebe, Song Sparrow, Lesser Goldfinch, Cal. Towhee, Bushtit, Anna's Hummingbird, House Finch, House Sparrow and Brown headed Cowbird were plentiful along the trail. Two Western Pond Turtles and some bottom feeding fish were also seen. I didn't see or hear any Yellow Warblers, although two males and one female were seen here June 23.
