[SBB] weekend birds - 26 Feb 05

On Saturday, 26 Feb 05, after completing a plover survey with Mike Rogers, I
went to Ed Levin Park to look for owls. There, I ran into Richard Jeffers
and his wife, Christine. We searched the trees to no avail - even missing on
Barn Owls. However, we did find Linda Sullivan's baby birds at the turn in
the path. They were certainly gallinaceous birds (not quail) and my best
guess as to their identity would be Wild Turkey chicks. There was also an
egg in the grass alongside the path which was consistent with turkey eggs
(too big for a passerine and not the right color/pattern for pheasant).

On Monday, 28 Feb 05, I went to the Alviso Marina and found the GREATER
ROADRUNNER still present. It was moving about the parking lot, constantly
calling its mournful notes. I do believe its looking for a mate. Good luck
with that.
