South Bay Birders,
Today (30 Dec) on the Calero-Morgan Hill CBC, Rick Herder and I covered
portions of southern Coyote Ridge. Highlights were 3 Grasshopper Sparrows
(probably regular, in low numbers, in winter in Santa Clara County's grassy
hills, which receive very little coverage during this season), single
Burrowing Owl, Prairie Falcon, and Glaucous x Herring Gull (1st-cycle), 3
Bald Eagles (2 adults, 1 first-year) along the western shore of the northern
arm of Anderson Reservoir, and good numbers of Rock Wrens, Rufous-crowned
Sparrows, and Golden Eagles.
After Rick and I split up, I had 2 Merlins in the northern Coyote Valley --
a female or immature along Santa Teresa Boulevard just west of Tulare Hill,
and an adult male along Dougherty Avenue at Palm Avenue.
