Hello.
I live in the Rosegarden area of San Jose (near
Lincoln High). This afternoon between 1:30 and 2:45
p.m., at least 347 Cedar Waxwings flew over my back
yard.
At most, I usually see 5-10 waxwings total each
winter, so this was a real treat.
They flew over in groups ranging for as few as 5 to as
many as 100. I could hear them calling vetry clearly.
The sky was very dark and creepy during that time and
the wind was blowing a bit. I don't know if they were
getting away from the storm or if this is "normal" for
this time of year.
Also joining the "fly by" were 17 American Crows, 7
Robins, about 20 gulls and a group of 28 Starling (all
high numbers compared to what i usually see fly over
the yard).
Manny
