All,
This morning I checked out the mouth of Stevens Creek on the falling tide
(lots of "Usual Suspects"; LEAST SANDPIPER, WESTERN SANDPIPER,
DUNLIN, Dowitchers, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, WILLETT, MARBLED GODWIT,
& LONG-BILLED CURLEW. At least one SEMIPALMATED PLOVER and
one WHIMBREL, a dozen basic plumaged FORSTER'S TERNS and some of the usual
Gulls added for variety. I was unable to located any peeps or the
Sharp-tailed Sandpiper in the area of the Alviso Marina (I suppose that
they could be out on bay feeding on exposed bottom).. A SURF SCOTER seemed
out of place in Salt Pond A12 while a few "female plumaged" RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERS continue there. Since Newby Island Dump was not
operating the pond at State and Spreckles, New Chicago Marsh and Salt Pond A16
were overrun with gulls (none that I could see however were worth
wearing those heavy "Mud Shoes" to get a closer look).
Take care,
Bob Reiling
