[SBB] Dixon Landing area

I was checking out the new section of the Coyote Creek Parkway this morning.  I parked at the new two car parking lot off McCarthy.  As I passed by the car mid-walk, I found a MERLIN perched on a cable arcing over some nasty looking spikes at the top of a tower by the lot.  When he wanted to turn around, he had to do some fancy footwork to keep from impaling himself.  Other raptors seen were a RED-SHOULDER HAWK, two WHITE-TAILED KITES, and four RED-TAILED HAWKS.  One of the latter had a very dark, almost reddish chest with an even darker belly band and a very red tail, beautiful.

The other noteworthy siting was a large flock of AMERICAN PIPITS, possibly more than a hundred.  They were all walking through a turned over pumpkin field and their backs were almost the exact color of the dirt.  Even as many as there were, I’m not sure I would have seen them if I hadn’t seen a few fly in.

Best Regards,
