Drat! Mike beat me to the punch. :-)
I checked at about 7:30 this morning before I went to work. The bird was in
that same area at the time. For those of you who have been holding off
chasing because you didn't think you would be able to pick it out, the bird
was easily distinguishable from the rest of the flock even in the early
morning light. The rufous cap looked dark mostly, flashing occasionally as
the sun hit it just right. The white supercilium, however, was blazing.
And, the white edged feathers on the side made the bird appear not only much
brighter but much more brightly patterned. The size difference helps of
course too. A single Dunlin was also hanging out with the rest of the
peeps.

At 11:30 am today, 16 Dec 05, the SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was in the pond
east of the railroad tracks at the Alviso Marina. This bird is now
officially a count week bird for the San Jose Christmas Bird Count.
