[SBB] Alviso Marina shorebirds

All,

I made a very quick check of the area around the Alviso Marina at lunch
today 12/7/05, hoping to refind the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper. This did not
happen, but a TREE SWALLOW flying east over the Marina and then New
Chicago Marsh was of interest, as was a LESSER YELLOWLEGS foraging with
a GREATER YELLOWLEGS in the wet area just north of Elizabeth Street.
This Lesser Yellowlegs is not the one along the EEC entrance road
because on the way back to work I checked that spot and confirmed that
bird was still there.

There were lots of LEAST SANDPIPERS and several WESTERN SANDPIPERS and
DUNLIN still east of the Marina, but apparently the Sharp-tailed
Sandpiper had moved elsewhere, either in New Chicago Marsh or perhaps
Salt Pond A8, as groups of shorebirds were seen leaving in that
direction. The impoundment north of the Marina could also be worth a
check, although only small shorebirds were visible there when I scoped
that area from the Marina.

I left Dean Manley searching for the bird; he was planning to make a
much more thorough broad-area check. Hopefully he'll have better news to
report later!
