[SBB] Newly open Milpitas Coyote Creek Parkway

SBB birders
Not mentioned on the Santa Clara County Coyote Creek web site is the City of Milpitas newly opened Coyote Creek walking and bike trail from HY 237 north to Warm Spring Blvd. This new Parkway extends east of the Coyote Creek Raparian Field Station, (under SFBO management) along the creek to the shore bird ponds. There is some high gound there which allows you to scope into the ponds. The trail is black topped.

As part of a quick car tour of the Coyote Creek Parkway yesterday
afternoon, I saw an OSPREY at Parkway Lakes, WOOD DUCKS on the Metcalf
Perc Ponds, AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN on Ogier Ponds, and COMMON MOORHEN,
COOPER'S HAWK, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and WHITE-TAILED KITE along the
creek. I was visiting the area with Elish Ryan in my capacity as a
County Parks Commissioner.

The www.parkhere.org link that Bill provided will give you access to the
Coyote Creek Parkway Master Plan area. That area also has links to the
Program Report document with interesting appendices that have more
technical information on biological and hydrological conditions of the
creek.

The best way to keep informed is to visit the Coyote Creek Parkway
Master Plan area on the County Parks website. The Park website also has
a link on the right to get email information from County Parks; you can
use this to get Parks Commission agendas, which would tell you when
issues of interest were to be discussed. If you want to let County
Parks know of your interest in maintaining high-quality bird habitat in
the Coyote Creek Parkway, attend a Commission Meeting and let them know
(the next one is Wednesday 7 Dec) or provide written comments to Elish
Ryan <[[email protected]]>. Written comments will be provided to
the Parks Commission members.

Subject: [SBB] Draft Preferred Alternative Report

Folks:

What will a trip to Ogier Avenue ponds be like in 20 years? Will it be
a
dog-training area? The Santa Clara Parks and Recreation Department is
discussing the Coyote Creek Parkway Master Plan and they now have a
Draft
Preferred Alternative Report. It is supposed to be up on their web site

today--if you don't see it there, contact Elish Ryan
<[[email protected]]> and ask her to mail you a copy. Their web
site
is <www.parkhere.org>.
