Today I spend a delightful morning birding with Bev Hesse in Sanborn Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We found 4 Townsends Warblers, Wilson's Warbler, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Cassins and Huttons Vireos, Red breasted (heard) and Pygmy Nuthatches, and 5 Hairy Woodpeckers. Although we didn't see a Pileated Woodpecker, we heard some very loud rapping through the Redwoods. Near the reservoir were Osprey, Belted Kingfisher and a kettle of 40 Ravens!!
>From San Jose drive south on hwy 17. Exit Bear Creek Rd. after Lexington Reservoir. Make a left on Black Rd. drive app. 3-4 miles to the small parking area at the John Nicholas trail head. The 1.4 miles wooded trail is fairly level to the reservoir.
