Hello,
Between 6:30 and 6:45 this evening I saw a SPOTTED SANDPIPER at the edge of
the water along the back shore of the little pond just south of the "back"
end of the Wave Walk at Sunnyvale Baylands Park. Its bill seemed slightly
decurved at the tip. It still had a spotted breast. The upper parts of the
bird looked like a solid gray except for a whitish supercilium. Under the
tail was pure white. I got a glimpse of the thin white line in the wings
when the bird flew up a few feet and then settled back down. I did not hear
it call.
Also in the pond tonight were 30 to 40 DOWITCHERS. I did not hear them call
and do not know if they were Long-billed or Short-billed Dowitchers. Two
AMERICAN AVOCETS and six SNOWY EGRETS were also at the pond this evening.
As we were leaving the park we watched eight GREAT EGRETS fly over the
parking lot headed west southwest.
