[SBB] Snowy Plover at ECC

This morning I went to the ECC about 8:30. I first walked out onto the railroad tracks, but there was no action out there other than 1 SEMIPULMATED PLOVER. I noticed Bob Reiling drive up across the pond at State and Spreckles. We later met up at the southeast corner of New Chicago Marsh near the curve. Here we found a single juvenile SNOWY PLOVER. It was quite busy feeding along the waters edge. There were also many RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 3 SEMIPULMATED PLOVERS and several LESSER YELLOWLEGS and GREATER YELLOWLEGS. Many LESSER AND WESTERN PEEPS, but no Bairds Sandpiper or Pacific Golden Plover. We then checked out Arzino Ranch hoping for the Pac. Golden Plover, but no luck. We did see 3 BURROWING OWLS, though. Next we headed for CCFS where the highlight was the ORANGE BISHOP in the marsh across (east) from the pond. We got some very nice looks at the male. An OSPREY flew over and a single AMERICAN GOLDFINCH put in an appearance.

Also present at the marsh were a dozen or so GARDEN SPIDERS. Luckily they are HUGE and easy to spot. Eeeek.

Happy birding!
Summer Brasuel
