Today I heard the distinctive call of a juvenile BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD
begging. In the backyard I found a juv.cowbird perched on the
birdbath. In a few moments a first year male HOODED ORIOLE fed the
begging bird. This is the third such feeding by male Hooded Orioles
I've seen this week. Last saturday a male HOOR was seen feeding
juv.cowbird north of Camden on the Alamitos Creek trail. A few days
later a first year male HOOR seen feeding juv. cowbird near Lake
Almaden. Several weeks ago I saw a SONG SPARROW on the east side of
Lake Almaden feeding three juv. B.H. Cowbirds!!! Also CAL.TOWHEE seen
feeding juv. cowbird on the west side of Lake Almaden near the
rangers headquarters recently.

This morning the Wild Bird Center group thoroughly enjoyed seeing
nine BURROWING OWLS at Shoreline. A nearby Coopers Hawk kept them
alert and expressive.

Yesterday the WESTERN SCREECH OWL was back in its tree cavity near
the YSI in Alum Rock Park.
