First, thanks to all who responded to my problem with the baby CALT.
I did call the West Nile Virus line, and they recorded my address for
Santa Clara Co. info, but do not want to test baby birds. The baby
could have hit the window, or starved.
Actually, one baby is gone. Did it fly out or get taken out by a predator?
The third bird looked pretty spry, but no parents are around.
As per suggestions, I moved the baby out to the front yard in the
juniper where other Cal Towhees hang out. I also put out millet
seeds, and peanut suet, and water. I do not know if the bird is old
enough to eat by itself. Its tail is probably about half grown, and
it still has a gape.
With no parents, it seemed better to put it out where other Towhees
hang out. I wish that I could have banded it somehow.
Again, thanks to all who responded.
Now I have to go out and wash all the bird poop off the windows and
ledges in our inner court.
It was fun to have the babies, but it sort of turned out sad. That is nature.
