Hi,
While watching these birds yesterday at 10 AM,
I met an employee of Shoreline Park who is officially
monitoring these birds, and he provided the following
interesting information about these birds:
1. There are two adults and seven offspring, all
from one brood.
2. These birds hatched in a burrow on the golf course,
and for some reason, recently moved to this site.
3. Originally when they moved, two of the young ones
were left behind at the golf course.
Eventually (2 days later), they figured it out
and joined the rest of the family at the new site.
4. They can all fly and do hunt at night, although the
young ones mostly just run after insects on the
ground close to the burrow.
5. The biggest populations of this species in the
South Bay are at the two major air fields:
San Jose and Moffett.
