Tom, beautiful picture. Thanks for sharing it.
As far as Owl-banding and where this particular bird
was banded, and whether as an adult or a chick, maybe
another picture will get a close-up of the number,
which could then be researched for the bird's history.
Folks from SFBBO might have more to say about any
specific projects they're doing revolving around the
Burrowing Owl.

As far as why we're interested or should be interested
in Burrowing Owl individuals and populations, Coast
and Ocean, Summer 2004 has some interesting
perspectives on dwindling populations and appropriate
habitat for Burrowing Owl.
