[SBB] 30 Apr 05

Today, 30 Apr 05, I returned to Smith Creek to seek out migrants again,
briefly running into Peggy Don and her husband, Bill. It was pretty quiet as
we walked up the hill to the north of the saddle, behind the fire station.
We had a couple of lingering YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS on the hilltop.
Eventually, I left them behind and bushwacked my way down the hill towards
the road. I only found a couple BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS by themselves
and decided to work back towards the saddle. I finally came across a flock
of migrants that included 7 WESTERN TANAGERS (6 males and a female), a male
HERMIT WARBLER, a male TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER,
and an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER.

I then stopped at Twin Gates and walked up the ridge, hoping for Horned
Lark, which I failed to find. Another YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was joined by a
few WESTERN KINGBIRDS, a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER, and
some LARK SPARROWS.

I drove across town to Stevens Creek Park and was rewarded with an
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER singing near the ranger station at the foot of Villa
Maria P.A. Up the road, I had an AMERICAN DIPPER flying upstream near the
third bridge above Mt. Eden Rd.
