Today I observed a bird show not nearly as unique as Garth's but every bit as entertaining.
My patio and deck are covered with screen cloth, which provides a nice, lightly shaded environment for me, but also tends to trap flies and other small flying insects. (The butterflies always manage to escape). This afternoon a black phoebe discovered this smorgasbord of captivity, and took up his position on the back of a chair just outside my family room door. I watched as he sat on the chair, craned his little neck up and about, and picked off every insect in sight! Little did I know when I installed the cloth last year that I was in part erecting a natural bird feeder.
