All,
This morning Frank Vanslager and I had good views of a somewhat elusive
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT in the field west of Llagas Creek about 200 feet west and
south of the first dike on the southern edge of the first, dry, Water Treatment
Pond. The bird had been heard for some time calling, mostly hidden, on the
western edge of the Llagas Creek dike 100 to 150 yards south of the first
pond. At one point we thought that there might be two Chat calling but we
couldn't verify it. The third pond this morning had 10 to 15 SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, 30 to 40 Dowitchers, perhaps a hundred WESTERN SANDPIPERS and at least one
DUNLIN. "Peeps" in subsequent ponds were not checked out when those in the
near pond flushed. We once again "dipped" on the Grackle in Lake Cunningham
Park (and on the first street west of the park).
Take care,
Bob Reiling
