I've been seeing a Western Tanager at Charleston Slough/Shoreline for about a week now..
I often spot it around 9am in the path between the Charleston Slough pump house (the one
with all the cliff swallow nests) and the GTE building off of old Bayshore.
Today I saw it in a tree near the kayaks on the Shoreline pond.
What a fabulous bird - see

Subject: [SBB] Western Tanager
I know it's a bit early, but if the male Western Tanager is truly
"unmistakable," then I saw one today, Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in
the Villa Maria area of Stevens Creek Park. I saw a bright yellow
bird high in the trees that edge the orchard. It's red head shone in
the sunlight. Right shape for my books, but this is my first
sighting so who knows? Maybe someone else would like a look?
