Hello All,
Things have been slow at the pond below Gate 5
at Monte Bello this week. In clammy fog this AM 9/17/2007, at least 2
Golden-crowned Sparrows were my first of the season. The summer sparrows seem to
have moved on, although I had a group of 3 Chipping Sparrows including both
juvenile and adult birds as recently as 9/13. The GCSPs are the leading edge of
the fall sparrows there, so I look forward to some more arrivals
soon.
Also at the pond this morning was a single Wilson's
Snipe and at least 2 Soras (may have heard a third also.) A Sharp-shinned Hawk
hushed things down with a quick flyover. One dull Yellow Warbler stopped in
briefly, and a single Wilson's Warbler held out in the willows where it has
lingered for at least a week now. A female Black-throated Gray Warbler was at
the gate itself back on 9/12.
