Ann Verdi and I tried unsuccessfully to find the MacGillivrays Warbler
and Eurasian Collared Dove near Lake Almaden this afternoon. We did see
a beautiful 1st year Willow Flycatcher on the west side of the lake
behind the Almaden Nursery. The juv. Common Moorhen was seen swimming in
the lake for the first time. On previous visits it was always walking
around the small island near the creek outlet to the lake. As we walked
back to our cars I heard a selasphorus hummingbird and spotted a f.
hummingbird at a purple flowering Budlea. It had quiet a bit of orange
on its back and buffy sides. Many butterflies were visiting the row of
Budlea bushes lining the road to the golf course on the east side of the
Alamitos Creek trail.
A begging Lesser Goldfinch was fed by an adult, and juvenile Cal. Towhee
begging from a nearby adult in an Elderberry bush. A pair of Wrentits
were in the same Elderberry bush near Crossview Ct. Nutmeg Mannikin
calls were heard all along this short stretch of the Los Alamitos Creek
trail between Almaden Lake and Crossview Ct. and several mannikins were
seen. Five Yellow Warblers were also seen and possible Western Tanager
heard.
