[SBB] Coyote Creek, waterbird pond, and . . . flock of Stilt Sandpipers

Folks:

This morning, 8/31/07, I visited Coyote Creek below Hwy
237. Starting from the CCFS trailers I walked upstream to the end of
the re-veg area and then crossed over to the creek. I walked
downstream to where the lower road regains the levee. Most migrants
were near the large eucalyptus near the trailers. Between Bob
Reiling and Frank Vanslager, who I ran into later, we saw 2-3 WILLOW
FLYCATCHERS, a couple of PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, 4+ YELLOW
WARBLERS, and a WILSON'S WARBLER. I checked the CCFS waterbird pond
and found fewer shorebirds than Bob and Frank had seen earlier.

I went home, but Bob and Frank visited New Chicago Marsh and reported
the "flock" of STILT SANDPIPERS. I returned there in the late
afternoon and Peggy and Bill Don were already watching some of these
birds near the end of the RR spur. These birds were in the pond south
of the RR spur, just before it joins the main tracks. They slept or
foraged separately and I could never get an accurate count. My best
attempt resulted in at least 3 juveniles.
