I was in the area again today, and curious how the rain might change
the population, so I birded the fennel at Baylands this morning.
Overall, pretty quiet, with more warblers than I've seen on recent
trips, but much fewer sparrows; 2-3 song sparrows, maybe 10 crowned
(mostly white-crown, I think two gold); I had one yellow warbler, two
common yellowthroat male and one female, and four or five yellow-rumped.
highlight bird of the day, though: Fox Sparrow, which popped up out
of the bushes in the front yard of the Ranger's station for a good
look. First of the season for me.
Also, in the bushes across the street from the pond, where the
eastern parking lot entrance was, I had another common yellowthroat
male and a female about 15' away from it.
