I had the pleasure of good views of the BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW pair near the
trailhead to Bald Mountain off Mt. Umunhum Rd this morning around 9.30, in
company with Dean Manley and Marty of the sharp eyes (whose last name
slipped away from me). The male was singing and the female carrying nesting
material. I managed to get a few not-too-good pictures, posted at
http://www.pbase.com/tgrey/latest .
Also seen or heard along the Bald Mountain trail this morning: LAZULI
BUNTINGS, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, ASH-THROATED
FLYCATCHERS. I got there about 6:45 following Janna Pauser's advice -- it
was shrouded in fog until after 8, and we were all just about to leave when
we saw the BCSPs. Thanks, Janna! No sign of Mike Mammoser's Lawrence's
Goldfinches.
