I was stopped last weekend, too, but by a resident. He finally told me that
he was Ok with my being there since I was a birder, but he does not like
kids up there partying. Sounds like the official story is more restrictive.
Wonder if there is any way to negotiate access for birders? Maybe we can
each volunteer to take out any trash we find, etc.

In my earlier cautionary note, I forgot to add that
the restricted area is clearly posted.
At the last fork in the road,
where Summit Road veers off to the right you have
to take the left fork to reach the parking area.
There is a green gate at the entrance to this
left fork and there are signs posted on either side
of this gate.
