[SBB] Caution: Access Restricted to Loma Prieta

Hi folks,

At about 6 PM this evening, while in the parking
area by the guard rail,
I was issued an official warning by the ranger
of the open space for two misdemeanors:
--being in a restricted area
--driving on a private road without permission

The ranger told me that he would let me off this time
and suggested that I spread the word that any future
violators will be issued a ticket.

Why was I there this afternoon, when my trip up
there this morning was already quite successful
(between 10 and 11 this morning, one or more
BLACK-CHINNED SPARROWs
were singing and provided brief looks already)?

Because during my visit up there this morning,
my lens cap fell off somewhere, and I went back
in the afternoon to search for it.
I found my lens cap alright, but didn't expect
to be harassed by the ranger.

At the end the ranger did lighten up and asked me
for the identity of the mass of butterflies there
(California Tortoiseshell).

That being said, I would like to report that
at around 5:30 PM, one BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW
sang for a few minutes from atop
a pine near the parking area.

Happy birding (but not in Loma Prieta)!
