My friend Kevin Teixeira who lives in Morgan Hill sent me a great video.
In his back yard a couple of weeks back, a COOPER'S HAWK caught a NORTHERN FLICKER. The hawk can be seen on top of the FLICKER and even plucking its feathers. Although the FLICKER looks like it's pretty much done for, it continues to put up a fight and eventually it gets away! The video does not actually show when the FLICKER finally gets away, but it did. It hopped into the bushes and the hawk surprisingly did not chase it right away. It did stay there for about five more minutes and saw the FLICKER again on a fence about 10 yards away and went after it. It got away again. The hawk hung out for a few more minutes with no luck.
Although it got away, I'm sure the FLICKER was pretty messed up.
