Hello SBBirders,
I am sad to report that the redtail nest along
Coyote Creek near the intersection of Ranch and McCarthy has fallen out of the
tree. A local nest watching enthusiast called this morning, and over the
lunch hour a couple of us went to check out the nest. We looked around for
human disturbance, but did not find any and so we assume that the nest fell due
to natural causes. There was one young bird found on the ground who didn't
make it through the fall. The chick looked to be about a week old. I
wanted to let everyone know, and I hope the adults build a sturdier nest next
time. I wish them better luck with their next nest, and hopefully it will
once again be in a location where we can all enjoy the view.
