Hi Birders-
Started the day at Loma Prieta around 8am. Near the parking area below the peak one or two Black-chinned Sparrows were singing and moving around from below the paved road to above the right dirt road that goes to the top. Never got a good look. Eventually the song came from higher up, so I took the middle road, which is really a very steep trail with very loose rock. While trying to keep from sliding down the hill, a Black-chinned Sparrow landed in full view only twenty feet away and stayed there for a minute. It continued on up the hill. I was able to follow it short distance. Also high up were a Wilson's Warbler and a probable Sage Sparrow. Later, driving down, I came across Bob Reiling and Frank Vanslager observing Sage Sparrows at the lower saddle, as Bob previously noted. In Alviso the two Cattle Egrets were in the Arzino Ranch field with Canada Geese. Hardly a blackbird of any kind was seen. And in late afternoon I stopped above Calaveras Reservoir. The eagle's nest was unattended and appeared empty. After a while the two adult Bald Eagles flew in but didn't land on the tower. They called to each other as they circled the nest for several minutes. One landed but there was still no movement in the nest. Then the other appeared with food and the two chicks popped. It was a great sight with all four birds full in view.
