Folks:
This morning, 5/20/07, I visited the vicinity of Arzino Ranch to look
for blackbird flocks. Not much luck there, at least initially. I
checked New Chicago Marsh and counted 10 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES in the
marsh at the little rise on Spreckles beyond the intersection with
State. Checking the fields of the Arzino Ranch from the Jubilee
Christian Church parking lot, I counted 7 adult BURROWING OWLS and 4
nestlings at one hole. The latter stretched their wings occasionally
which were mostly without feathers. There were at list 2 migrant
WESTERN KINGBIRDS in these fields (but no Cattle Egrets). Giving up,
I started for home and found a large flock of blackbirds at First and
Nortech. Vivek Tiwari was already there. Eventually, I had good
looks at two immature male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS and a female.
