[SBB] Grant Park Willow Flycatcher, pix

This morning I drove to Joseph Grant park, and there were the expected
numerous BULLOCK'S ORIOLES and WESTERN KINGBIRDS around the ranch house, as
well as a LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCH. Over at the lake, no luck finding a Chat,
but Bewick's Wrens are using the nestbox in the oak tree uphill west of the
parking lot, and Black Phoebes are nesting in the information kiosk.

My best bird of the day was what I took to be a WILLOW FLYCATCHER south of
the ranch house where the Hotel Trail recrosses the creek. It was singing
"fitz-bew," has little or no eye-ring, and a large bill -- and was kind
enough to pose for me, picture posted, along with K-bird and Oriole.

I had been planning to go to the Diablo Range yesterday morning, but when I
drove off under clear skies before sunrise I saw lots of clouds over the
east bay, bad for morning photography. So I went to Arastradero instead,
where I was able to get a couple of pictures of an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER.
For photographers -- the spot is the big Acorn Woodpecker granary snag
below the trail on the east edge of the preserve (go up the trail to the
left after coming in the entrance.) I sat quietly near that tree with my
back to the morning sun and got nice views of kites (two adults and two
juveniles were active), Acorn Woodpeckers, Violet-green Swallows, and a
nesting pair of starlings -- as well as the aforementioned Ash-throated
Flycatcher.
