Rich Page led a Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society
walk at Grant Ranch County Park this morning, 5/13/07. The bird of the day
was a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT in the coyote bushes west of the little knoll that
overlooks the lake and is just up the hill from the lake parking area.
There were LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHes everywhere we went, LAZULI BUNTINGs in at
least three places, several YELLOW WARBLERs, a female SELASPHORUS HUMMINGBIRD, a
PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER, a flight of 9 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANs, and, especially
in the vicinity of the ranch house and buildings, a lot of BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and
WESTERN KINGBIRD activity. Rich saw a pair of WOOD DUCKs before the walk
and the group saw a female fly-by over the lake.
