I know some of you will be interested (and for the rest, apologize for
the noise...) -- a couple of weeks ago, I took some time off and did
some vacationing and birding, visiting Merced NWR, Yosemite, Orange
County (to see the parents), and then a quick stop at Morro Bay to
stuff the "trip list" with a few more species. I was hoping going in
to see 100 species, but I fell a bit short (blame it on sweet springs
in Morro, which was a complete washout for me) -- but I still saw 82
species, 14 lifers, and highlights included four woodpeckers
(including Acorn, red-headed sapsucker and white-faced in Yosemite),
Mountain Quail, Cassin's finch, Townsend's (in Hetch-hetchy and Happy
Isles) and Wilson's (in Orange county) warbler, and a Juvenile Bald
Eagle soaring.
Trip report and photos are now online here:

And with that, I'll return you to your Lauzli buntings and hope
they're still around when I finally shake this flu I caught along the
way... (achoo) -- and a quick thanks to all of you out there that have
been a help in me getting better at this last year couple of years.
You know who you are, and you should know how much I appreciate your
advice and patience and occasional kick in the pants...
